Mass, weight and density

What this model shows
The readings are the values a school set would give: a pine block 20.0 cm × 10.0 cm × 5.0 cm of mass 598.4 g, a stone of 31.2 g and 12 cm³, and cooking oil of density 0.92 g/cm³. Water is taken as 1.00 g/cm³.
A floating block sinks until the water it pushes aside has the same mass as the block, so the fraction under water is its density ÷ the density of water: about 60 % here. The tank’s level rises by the water pushed aside.
Real readings scatter a little, a wet stone carries some water, and a little oil stays in the cylinder. These are simulated apparatus.
With reduced motion, objects move straight to their new place.
