describe: give the features or what happens. calculate: work out the answer from the data. explain: give reasons and connect them to evidence.
A pupil wants to find the volume of one drop of water from a dropper. (a) Describe how to measure the volume of 50 drops with a 10 cm³ measuring cylinder marked every 0.2 cm³, so that the reading is as accurate as possible. (b) The 50 drops have a volume of 2.4 cm³. Calculate the volume of one drop. (c) Explain why the pupil measured 50 drops and not one.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 · 2026–2028 v2 · Original learning materials.
Using rulers and measuring cylinders to find a length or a volume (1.1.1), measuring time intervals with clocks and digital timers (1.1.2), and finding the average of a small distance and a short time by measuring multiples, including the period of a pendulum (1.1.3), with the practical skills of tables and graphs. Vectors and scalars (1.1.4–1.1.7) are in the Resultant force module.
Apparatus, amounts and times in the experiment are illustrative. Real practical work follows a teacher-approved safety method.
