Recall and explain
state: give a concise answer. calculate: work out the answer from the data. explain: give reasons and connect them to evidence.
Keep the lesson closed. (a) State what mass is and its unit. (b) State what weight is and its unit. (c) An apple has a mass of 0.10 kg. Calculate its weight on Earth (g = 9.8 N/kg). (d) Explain why an equal-arm balance gives the same result on the Moon as on Earth. (e) A stone falls on Earth with no air resistance to slow it. What is its acceleration, and how is that number linked to g?

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 · 2026–2028 v2 · Original learning materials.
Mass and weight, gravitational field strength g = W / m and comparing masses on a balance (1.3.1–1.3.5), density ρ = m / V, measuring the density of a liquid, a regular solid and an irregular solid that sinks, and predicting from density data whether an object floats or one liquid floats on another (1.4.1–1.4.4). Forces and their effects are in FORCE01; pressure in liquids is in PRES01.
Apparatus, amounts and times in the experiment are illustrative. Real practical work follows a teacher-approved safety method.
